Lanka Jatika Sarvodaya Shramadana Sangamaya Inc. (Sarvodaya)

Lanka Jatika Sarvodaya Shramadana Sangamaya Inc., also known as Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement (Sarvodaya) is the largest and most broadly embedded community-based organization in Sri Lanka. Sarvodaya seeks a no-poverty society in Sri Lanka through an integrated, holistic approach to development, including spiritual, moral, cultural, social, economic, and political development. Today, the Sarvodaya Movement has a proven history of exceptional accomplishments, a strong organizational structure with 26 District Centers, and a formidable outreach that encompasses 15,000 villages across Sri Lanka.

Guided by Sarvodaya’s purpose to ‘Build a just, sustainable and a compassionate social order that fulfills the basic human needs of the community through individual and collective awakening’ and its decades of experience in facing a crisis, Sarvodaya has vigilantly weighed the importance of immediately interfering in three different ways in responding to the looming crisis. In the short and mid-term, Sarvodaya’s initiative and response to the crisis will ensure food security and safeguard vulnerable children and communities in carefully selected geographical locations. Parallelly Sarvodaya will implement a national-level media to sensitize and inspire the public, utilizing mass media and social media inspiring people to help each other at this time of crisis. In the long run, Sarvodaya will be looking at mid and long-term solutions to ensure these communities are resilient to the economic pressures and shocks and will be introducing fitting programs in the scope of conscious- regenerative economics.

HelpAge Sri Lanka

HelpAge Sri Lanka is a charitable non-governmental organization established in 1986, working for and on behalf of disadvantaged senior citizens in Sri Lanka to improve their quality of life. HelpAge’s mission is to raise awareness and ensure that people in Sri Lanka understand how much older people contribute to society and that they must enjoy their right to healthcare, social services, and economic and physical security. HelpAge Sri Lanka has had extensive experience in humanitarian responses since 2005, since its response to the Tsunami.

At present, the country’s situation is alarming, and many elders are suffering due to the crisis. HelpAge Sri Lanka has completed Mobile Medical and Eye Camps covering a few parts of the country and planning more camps to serve the vulnerable elders in many parts of the country. One of the major issues is the short supply of medicines for the sickly people. The Partner also plans to distribute food and non-food packs to the affected community.
