July 19, 2007 - Thirty months after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, many long-term projects are coming to a close and putting in place permanent services to serve affected communities. From building clinics in Indonesia, to offering education for girls in India, and promoting peace in war-affected Sri Lanka, our corporate clients and local partners are supporting evolving needs and creating brighter futures for communities in Asia struck by the 2004 tsunami. This feature highlights examples of successful, long-term projects, several of which are coming to completion this summer.

October 25, 2007 - The devastation of the 2004 tsunami came on the heels of two separate, decades-long conflicts between insurgent armies and the governments in Sri Lanka and Aceh, Indonesia. These conflicts had led to the deaths of tens of thousands of people, and they progressed very differently after the disaster; Aceh moving toward peace and Sri Lanka toward escalating violence. The roots of how these two conflicts evolved following the tsunami existed before December 2004, and it can be argued that the wave helped trigger changes that were already in progress.

May 14, 2007- Give2Asia’s donors are taking steps to improve the mental health of thousands. By funding local charitable groups in China, India, and elsewhere, these donors are making an impact with projects that address their specific interests and concerns for Asia—and helping to bring a level of support for mental health that currently does not exist in many parts of the region.

May 14, 2007- At age three, Prateek was left outside an orphanage severly malnourished and HIV positive. Suffering from pneumonia and tuberculosis, he had not been bathed in weeks, and did not have the strength to move his limbs, cry, or chew properly. Abandoned by his family, he found a home and the medical care he needed at the Johnson & Johnson supported Naz Care Home in Delhi, India.

October 15, 2006 - With support from the Ting Kai Fund, a donor-advised fund with Give2Asia, a new, private library in Beijing is providing young people with the opportunity to read outstanding, engaging books and to learn and practice English.

September 9, 2006 - For millions of children in rural areas across Asia, the opportunity to receive a quality education remains elusive: scores simply do not have access to affordable transportation, materials, and monies to pay tuition. Private international donors are making a difference in these children's lives by seeking out local organizations, schools and universities and supporting projects that make education more attainable.
