Give2Asia, an international nonprofit that builds the capacity of local charitable groups across Asia, announces today that Mr. George SyCip has been appointed to serve as its next Chairman of the Board and will begin his term on August 15, 2016.
Mr. SyCip is committed to making Asian communities more prosperous and currently serves on the boards of several international and Asia-focused organizations, including the International Institute for Rural Reconstruction, the Global Heritage Fund, the Museum of Chinese in America, and the California Asia Business Council. Mr. SyCip is President of Halanna Management Corporation and a Founder and Principal in Galaxaco China Group LLC. Mr. SyCip advises a variety of companies in their cross-border endeavors between the US/Europe and Asia.
“With the role of charities and social enterprises changing significantly in China, India and elsewhere, Give2Asia’s work has never been more important,” said Dr. Ta-lin Hsu, who is finishing his current term as Give2Asia’s Chairman of the Board after serving in the role for over five years. “George SyCip is committed to expanding Give2Asia’s work, further establishing our presence in the region, and building new relationships with international philanthropists and investors.”
Prior to setting up his own offices, Mr. SyCip had a career in banking, including serving as Chief Financial Officer of United Savings Bank, a leading provider of banking services to California’s Asian communities and a major originator of home mortgages in the State. He currently sits on several corporate boards, including Bank of the Orient in San Francisco, Beneficial Life Insurance Company in the Philippines, Alliance Select Foods international, Inc., Spence & Co., Ltd., Paxys, Inc., and Agritech Faso SA.
He has also served as Commissioner for the City and County of San Francisco’s Social Services Department. He was Director and Treasurer of the San Francisco Education Fund and the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library and served on Stanford University’s Institute for International Studies Advisory Board, as well as Grameen Foundation USA’s Philippine Advisory Council.
