New Give2Asia and Philanthropy University Partnership Puts Online Learning in Hands of Nonprofit Leaders

San Francisco, CA – May 21, 2018 –  Give2Asia and Philanthropy University announce a new partnership with Philanthropy University to help Asia-based nonprofits build their capacity for fundraising and donor engagement.  The partnership merges Give2Asia’s robust network of vetted nonprofit organizations with Philanthropy University’s digital-learning platform for thought leaders focused on grassroots approaches to the development sector.

“A major challenge for many high-performing, local nonprofits in Asia continues to be quality fundraising. This partnership between Give2Asia and Philanthropy University brings critical best practices in the hands of nonprofit leaders and also allows them to learn from each other to reach their goals for local development.”

— Birger Stamperdahl, President & CEO of Give2Asia

Philanthropy University’s Model

Philanthropy University provides local civil society organizations in the Global South with the knowledge and resources needed to better serve their communities. It offers essential online courses developed by academics and field practitioners on topics including  fundraising, nonprofit strategy, monitoring and evaluation, girl-centered design and more. Learners are eligible to receive a Certificate of Achievement for completed courses through the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. Philanthropy University also offers a networking space for Community of Practice, or a network of persons unified by a common passion, where course learners are able to connect with others to discuss topics on development, nonprofit management and fundraising.

Give2Asia’s Focus on Locally-Led Programs

Give2Asia is an international nonprofit that establishes trusted pathways for philanthropy to charitable projects and social enterprises in the Asia Pacific region. Through advised grant making and fiscal sponsorship, it has connected thousands of donors with over 2,000 grant recipients making lasting changes to their communities.

Give2Asia is fundamentally premised on the philosophy that local knowledge counts, and proudly relies on guidance from its team of local staff and in-country advisors to ensure that projects are effective and appropriate for their regional context. Its work focuses on issues ranging from healthcare and education to sustainable development and disaster relief, and it further provides its grantee network with access to knowledge and resources that can better their work.

How Asia-Based Nonprofits Can Get Started

Any nonprofits based in the Asia Pacific that are not already a part of this network are encouraged to learn more about Give2Asia’s Fiscal Sponsorship Program, which enables organizations to receive tax-deductible funds from U.S.-based donors and integrates them into a network of partners that share resources and convene at events. Reaching out to the Manager of Fiscal Sponsorship to start a conversation about this opportunity.

With this new partnership, all Give2Asia-vetted Asia nonprofits have free access to online courses on nonprofit management and fundraising as well as to a community networking platform. Courses through Philanthropy University can be launching points into new topics of development or up-to-date resources to build up their current work. Upcoming courses of interest in which partners can already start enrolling include:

Give2Asia not only invites its grantee network to participate in these courses, but it plans to build on this partnership with Philanthropy University by contributing valuable cases from the Asian perspective through its current partners and programs. Look forward to ongoing developments in the months to come!
